1,100 runners conquer Budapest Airport’s runway run

Despite temperatures creeping into the high-30s, over 1,100 runners literally raced down Budapest Airport’s Runway 13R-31L on Saturday to take part in the annual Budapest Airport-
anna.aero Runway Run. Now in its seventh year – a permanent fixture in many diaries – airlines, airports, and aviation enterprises from all over the world came together for the air transport industry’s annual charity race.
Teams and individual runners included serious competitive airline entries fielded by defending champions Aer Lingus, previous titleholders SWISSand Wizz Air, as well as Qatar Airways, Emirates, LOT Polish Airlines, and American Airlines to name just a few. Joining spirited runners from airports across the globe, including Berlin, Birmingham, London Luton and Vienna, were numerous other aviation-related enterprises ranging from manufacturers, banks, ground handlers, foreign embassy representatives, and concessionaires. This year’s competition saw new teams take to the podium as ASL Airlines claimed the title of ‘Fastest Airline in the World’, Berlin won ‘Fastest Airport in the World’ while SITA went home triumphant as the ‘Fastest Aviation Business Services Team’.
