Study reveals 5-star hotel cleaning staff are worse than 3 or 4-star staff

Online reviews can only tell travelers so much about a hotel's cleanliness. For an inside look at the world of housekeeping, Zoro's team surveyednearly 200 professional cleaners in the hospitality industry.

From stolen items to the most frequently skipped housekeeping duties, here’s what cleaners confessed
  • 1 in 3 housekeepers admitted to making a bed with obvious hair strands on the sheets – another 2 in 5 housekeepers made the bed with conspicuous stains on the sheets
  • Housekeepers working in 5-star facilities were more likely to admit cutting corners in their cleaning responsibilities than those working in 3 or 4-star accommodations
  • Among the top tasks housekeepers witnessed their co-workers skip, wiping high-contact areas like door handles and dusting (72%) were most commonly skipped followed by vacuuming (65%)
